Welcome to Lewis & Clark Middle School

¡Bienvenidos a la Escuela Media Lewis & Clark!

It is a great privilege for me to welcome you and your children to Lewis & Clark Middle School for another successful year of learning. I am excited to introduce our new Assistant Principals: Jennifer Norman, who comes to us from Adams Elementary, and Tom Rust, from Washington Middle School. Both of them come to us with a wealth of knowledge and experience in creating positive school climate and academic excellence.

This year, with your help, we can create opportunities for your children that may never be possible without this valuable gift of education. In order for us to do our best, we need your support to make sure your children arrive at school every day, on time, Dressed for Success, and ready to learn. Our teachers and support staff are provided with the very best teaching tools and strategies, and the best educational materials in order to create a safe and supportive school environment in which all students can succeed.

We at Lewis & Clark Middle School believe school is an extension of the student’s home, and I encourage parents/guardians and families to partner with the school in an effort to increase student learning. Throughout this school year, our Parent Involvement Committee is planning many fun and exciting events including Talent show, Movie Night, Bingo Night, among other fun events for our students and their families. These events give us opportunities to get to know each other and be active in our kids’ schools. Your involvement is so important. Please plan on attending an upcoming event or stopping by to visit Lewis & Clark Middle School. We will always find the time to welcome you.

Students at the Lewis & Clark Middle School will be expected to "Dress for Success". This dress policy enables students to focus on learning and helps with school safety. Please see our Policies page for an explanation of the benefits and reasons for implementing "Dress for Success" as well as other clothing expectations. Since starting the "Dress for Success" policy, it has made a measurable difference in academic success and safety at our school. Dress for Success also contributes to building an academic community where all students feel welcome and safe.

I believe our school is the best middle school in Yakima. With renewed focus on positive behavior, through our "OnTRACK" initiative, using incentives for recognizing student achievement, both behaviorally and academically, Lewis & Clark Middle School is poised to see our students achieve substantial gains in all subject areas. It is a school in which you and your students will be proud to be a part. Our vision is that Lewis & Clark will be a high-performing, engaging learning community where everyone belongs and everyone achieves.I look forward to an exciting new school year. If you have any questions or need assistance please come by the school or give me a call at 573-2200.

Healthy Youth Survey

Washington State 2016 Healthy Youth Survey

Our district is participating in the Washington State 2016 Healthy Youth Survey during the weeks of October 10th - 21st.

The Healthy Youth survey includes questions related to physical activity and diet, unintentional and intentional injury, substance use, risk and protective factors, access to school-based services, and sexual behaviors, abuse and orientation. Survey results are used by schools, communities and state agencies to plan programs to support our youth and reduce their risks.

The Healthy Youth Survey is given to students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12 across Washington State.

Participation in the survey is voluntary and the students' answers are anonymous.

Please read the Parent and Student Notification flyer for more information about the Healthy Youth Survey.
